Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has suffered yet another injury blow during his team’s 6-2 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road overnight. The England international had appeared to be playing his way back into form before being struck down by an apparent groin injury.

Grealish had looked lively during his return to the starting lineup. He was involved in the play and looked determined to make an impact in his return to Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup.

But his game would be over after 38 minutes. The England international was replaced by Jeremy Doku after suffering what seems to be a recurrence of the groin injury he suffered against FC Copenhagen. It is a blow for Grealish and Manchester City given his importance to the world champions. They do look to have more control of games and are better balanced with Grealish in the lineup.

Speaking post game Pep Guardiola told the media that it appeared that Grealish had reinjured his groin. The City manager said: “I didn’t speak to the doctor yet but I think he complained about the groin, so maybe quite similar. He felt really, really good but unfortunately, he was injured again at the beginning of the game.”

Jack Grealish cut a forlorn figure on the bench after being substituted. Guardiola was also asked if the winger was upset at being reinjured. He said: “Of course. It has been a tough season for him so now he has to recover well and help us when he is able to come back.”

It is a blow for Manchester City to lose Grealish. The hope is he can make a speedy recovery to aid the world champions later in the season.
