Insider reveals the best offers the 49ers received for Brandon Aiyuk
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft has concluded, and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains on the San Francisco 49ers roster, as many anticipated. However, both general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan were receptive to listening to offers from other teams, and indeed, teams made inquiries.

Ultimately, the offers weren't enticing enough to persuade the 49ers to part ways with Aiyuk, who served as the team's top receiver last season. However, Matt Barrows of The Athletic provided some insight into the compensation other teams discussed in preliminary talks with the 49ers.

"The team took several phone calls for Aiyuk in the run-up to the draft with a few more coming on Thursday," Barrows revealed. "None, however, came close to the mid-first-round selection the 49ers needed to seriously consider moving their top wideout."

Barrows highlighted two offers that caught his attention: "According to a league source, the best offer the 49ers got was for a second-round pick. Another team picking in the middle of the draft discussed an Aiyuk trade that involved swapping first-round picks, though there was never any formal offer."

That wasn't enough to wow Lynch and Shanahan, who opted to focus on continued contract negotiations with Aiyuk rather than parting ways with the fifth-year wide receiver.

Barrows noted that the 49ers haven't entirely ruled out the possibility of a trade involving Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel.

After the first round, Lynch remarked, "You never close the door on a trade. We'll always listen, and we have. But we like our group as it stands."

The insider believes that the selection of former Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall appears to have been made with an eye toward the future. Jauan Jennings, the 49ers' reliable third receiver, is set to become a free agent next year, and Pearsall could fill the void left by his or Samuel's potential departure in 2025.
