Why Is This Former New York Knicks Rim Protector A Free Agent?
USA TODAY Sports

Nerlens Noel spent this past season with the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets.

The former Kentucky star played a limited role and only averaged 2.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest in 17 games (he averaged 11.5 minutes of playing time).

This summer, Noel signed with the Sacramento Kings but was waived before the preseason.

On October 15, he is still a free agent that is available to sign with any team in the league.

Noel dealt with injuries during the 2021-22 season when he was a member of the New York Knicks and only played in 25 games.

However, he was a productive player for the Knicks during the 2020-21 season and averaged 5.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 2.2 blocks per contest while shooting 61.4% from the field in 64 games (41 starts).

He also helped the Knicks make the NBA playoffs (they were the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference).

In addition to the Knicks, Nets and Pistons, Noel has also spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder.

He was the sixth pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and has played nine years in the NBA with career averages of 7.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest while shooting 54.6% from the field in 467 regular season games (he has also appeared in 17 NBA playoff games).

The regular season will begin in less than two weeks, so Noel will be a name to watch.
