The Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat combined for 214 points to go over the total and spoil our Thursday Look of the Day. We're looking for a bounce-back winner to close out the week, and we're going to the Valero Texas Open to find it.
Our favorite look on Friday is a matchup bet for the second round of the Valero Texas Open. We're interested in fading Collin Morikawa after his eventful first round at TPC San Antonio.
Morikawa finished with a 2-under 70 on Thursday, but he needed a lot of luck to get there. The American, who's been struggling with his irons to start the season, lost 0.607 strokes on approach and 1.091 strokes from putting. He ranked 105th and 123rd, respectively, in the field in those categories. He was able to scratch out an under-par round because he gained 2.755 strokes around the green to rank second in the field.
Chipping that well isn't sustainable. Poor approach play is much more predictive of how a player will perform the rest of the week, so we're expecting Morikawa to take a step back on Friday.
Billy Horschel shot a 3-over 75 in the first round because he went only 2/8 in scrambling. The veteran gained strokes around the green in four straight starts coming in, so he should be due for a bounce-back chipping performance.
