Watch: Marlins manager in disbelief after nearly being ejected

Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker on Tuesday nearly suffered the same fate New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone did last month.

Boone was ejected from the Yankees’ April 22 contest against the Oakland Athletics at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, N.Y. The scene went viral because the Yankees skipper apparently got thrown out for something a fan had said.

Schumaker felt Boone’s pain for a brief moment during Tuesday’s game between the Marlins and the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan.

With two outs in the top of the second inning, Schumaker seemingly got tossed by home plate umpire Ben May despite barely saying a word.

The Marlins manager was distraught and pleaded his case to May. Schumaker waved his arms around as if to try to pin whatever was said to someone else.

May eventually listened. Schumaker’s ejection was reversed, and bench coach Luis Urueta was thrown out in his place.

Urueta also had a lengthy discussion with the umpires before leaving the dugout.

The early ejection may have motivated Marlins starting pitcher Ryan Weathers. The left-hander threw eight scoreless innings and was perfect through five to fuel a 1-0 Marlins win over the Tigers.
