Two days ago, the Colorado Rockies shut out their division rival San Diego Padres 8-0. That win marked Colorado’s sweep of San Diego. It also extended the Rockies’ winning streak to an MLB-best seven games as they head off to San Francisco. The Rockies’ win streak started during the previous series against the Giants, in which Colorado won the final game of that three-game series. Colorado is currently the hottest team in MLB, and here’s how they got there.

The offense and the pitching staff have contributed a ton during this win streak. During their seven-game win streak, they’ve scored 43 runs. They scored at least five runs or more in five out of the seven games. Colorado’s pitching staff has allowed a total of 14 runs in the last seven games. In all seven games, they racked up 76 hits. The Rockies pitching staff allowed one run or less during three of the seven games played. This is certainly a completely different Rockies team than we saw on Opening Day when the team took an embarrassing 16-1 loss. The Rockies offense and pitching staff must continue to stay hot and ride the momentum.

Watch out for Rockies number four prospect Jordan Beck. He looks to continue to stay as solid as he was in Colorado’s last game. During the team’s 8-0 win over San Diego, Beck went three for four with five runs batted in. The 23-year-old outfielder will look to improve each outing and show up in big-time moments during the Rockies winning streak. Also, look out for Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon. The 29-year-old third baseman has a stat line of .340/.407/509 and two home runs in 53 at-bats against left-handed pitchers this season. Someone else must come through for the Rockies if they want to continue to push this winning streak and momentum. Whether that is Charlie Blackmon, Ezequiel Tovar, Brenton Doyle, Jacob Stallings, or others, this team needs nine offensive players to give it their all during the team’s surprising win streak.

How Can The Rockies Sustain It, And Who Needs To Step Up

For the Rockies to sustain their sudden momentum and continue winning, they’ll need contributions from these players and others, such as pitcher Ryan Feltner. Feltner is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA so far in 2024. However, in his last start, during an 8-3 win over the Texas Rangers, he pitched solidly with one of his best starts of the season. He went six innings and struck out four while allowing two runs on five hits. Colorado will have to count on him to help their pitching staff, as the Rockies have the worst ERA in MLB (5.03).

The Rockies’ seven-game winning streak is their longest since 2019. Their 8-0 win over San Diego was also their first shutout in 93 games, and they’ve outscored teams 43-14 during this stretch.
